Audition Tips
You will study the materials for the role of your top choice.
You will be reading singing a song for the audition.
If you do not have access to these materials at home please contact Mrs. Grant immediately.
Here are some tips for success:
In General:
- Project! We won't know how good you are if we cannot hear you. That doesn't mean shouting. Just aim your voice to someone sitting at the back of the auditorium!
- SMILE - Smiling gives you confidence, and your voice will sound clearer, too!
- BREATHE - take a deep breath. You will feel better!
- Remember all the teachers are there to see how amazing you are. Be confident!
- Hydrate! Drink plenty of water.
- Practice! Do the lines, the songs... to your family, friends, or even stuffed animals! It makes a HUGE difference if you have done it even once before the actual audition!
- Record yourself on audio and then listen to yourself - it is probably a little odd. But it really helps!
For the Song
- Please try to sing naturally, without the twist and turns of the "pop style". The recordings provide very good vocal models. When in doubt - sing like Julie Andrews!
- OPEN YOUR MOUTH - you'd be surprised what a difference it makes.
- If you need any help with notes or if you are looking for advice please feel free to ask Mrs. Grant!
Additional Info:
- Please note that no parent or students who are not auditioning will be allowed in the auditorium during the auditions.
- Remember to be respectful during the auditions. You are there to support each other!
- It is recommended that you memorize everything -- it helps to leave a good impression! But if you do feel nervous, you are allowed to bring lyrics/monogues to hold in your hand just in case.
- We are so proud of you for wanting to audition for us. You are a winner already for going through this process!
