Hello boys and girls, parents and guardians! Thank you for browsing this page.
I was born and raised in Hong Kong, China. Hong Kong was a British Colony until 1997. I came to Connecticut in 1998 to study at Wesleyan University. Then I went to Central Connecticut State University to learn to teach music. I started working at Naubuc School in 2005. After six wonderful years, I came to Gideon Welles School in 2011.
There are many things that interests me. I love studying languages. I have dabbled in many languages like French, Japanese, and Tibetan. I studied German in college and I speak both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.
I also love to travel. Here is a map of where I have been. If you click on the little pointers over the places, it would tell you what I did there. You can zoom in to get a better view. I hope I can keep adding new destinations to this map!

Books!I love to read! When I was growing up, the public libraries in Hong Kong had a children's library and a grown-up's library. I remember sneaking into the grown-up's library with my mom all the time to read and borrow all kinds of novels and non-fiction books. I used to read everything in Chinese only. But since when I was 15, I started reading English books too.

My favorite books are true stories. I love reading about the Second World War. The soldiers' courage and honor inspire me. Have you heard of the expression "truth is stranger than fiction"? I totally agree with it! There are too many true story in this world that are just amazing. My favorite books about the Second World War are "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand, "With the Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge and "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose.
I also love fictional stories about art, as well as all kinds of history books. One of my biggest passion is The Lord of the Rings and other books by J. R. R. Tolkien. I read the Simarillions recently and I loved it. Recently I started reading His Dark Materials triology by Philip Pullman.
I also like books about victorian and edwardian times in England. I like Jane Austen's novels very much. I think she is funny! I also read non-fiction books about that period to learn about the time period.
I have a large collection of music books as well (of course!). These are books about musicians, composers, pianos, and music history. I read all of them. My favorie music book is called "The Great Pianists" by Harold C. Schoenberg. You would be amazed how many ways Mr. Schoenberg can describe a pianist's playing.
One of the greatest perks about being an adult is that now that I have a job, I can buy all the books I want! (Well, I have to be careful not to spend too much though.) I hope you will share your favorite books with me when you have the chance.

Movies & TV ShowsI watch a lot of movies and tv shows. I like movies about courages people who are hard-working and honorable. I love going to the movie theater. But usually I just watch rental DVDs at home.
I love old movies. There are many black and white movies which I love. I love "To Kill A Mockingbird" with Gregory Peck, "Grapes of Wrath" with Henry Fonda, "The Roaring Twenties" and "White Heat" with James Cagney, and "Les Enfants du Paradis" with Jean-Louis Barrault. Not to mention "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb." As you can see from the title, this movie is very strange. But it is super funny. by the way, do you know what these are? -->

I also own a ton of animated movies (cartoons)! I love Hayao Miyazaki as a kid and I still love all of this movies. If you don't know who he is, you really should check out his beautiful movies. Some of the more popular ones in the US are "Sprited Away" and "Princess Mononoke". All of this movies feature brave children or young people who fight for their beliefs. All his movies have music scores written by one of my favorite composers - Joe Hisaishi. Sometimes I played his music in the auditorium before chorus rehearsals! I also own and have watched all of Pixar's movies, such asFinding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Cars, etc. I watched many of them in the theater too! My favorite Pixar movie is The Incredibles. How about yours?
Similar to my passion for books, I also love watching movies about wars and musicians! My favorite war movies are "All Quiet on the Western Front", "Sergeant York" with Gary Cooper, "Full Metal Jacket" directed by Stanley Kubrick, and "Band of Brothers", just to name a few. For music movies, I love "The Pianist" with Adrian Brody, "Shine" and "Amadeus". Some of these movies are of PG or R ratings though so young people will have to wait to see them!
